Barn fire near Gowanstown claims cattle

A recent barn fire near Gowanstown, just outside of Listowel, claimed the lives of a number of cattle.

According to the North Perth Fire Department and Perth County OPP, firefighters and police responded to the blaze on Wednesday evening on Perth Line 88 near the town of Gowanstown.

The fire was successfully extinguished, but the barn that was housing 88 cattle was heavily damaged and a number of cows were killed as a result, though the exact number is not yet known.

There were no reported injuries to any persons as a result of the fire. Perth Line 88 was temporarily closed at Highway 23 and Perth Road 158 while emergency crews responded, but it was reopened a short time later.
