Huron County OPP has trained an additional 12 officers for Project Lifesaver.
A press release from the OPP shares that this month, 12 more officers received training for the Project Lifesaver program, which can help locate people who wander or can easily become lost.
Project Lifesaver first came to Huron County in 2018, and involves the use of radio frequency technology to quickly locate lost people.
The project is specifically aimed at people who are living with Alzheimer's, autism, Down's Syndrome, or who have acquired a brain injury or other type of cognitive impairment.
Pre-registered clients simply wear a small transmitter, similar to a wristwatch that emits a signal. Should that person get lost or go missing, caregivers can call 911 and inform police that they are part of Project Lifesaver. Each transmitter has a unique signal, making locating people much easier.
Worldwide, Project Lifesaver has assisted in thousands of rescues.
There is a one-time set up fee, and a monthly maintenance fee of $10.
