Midwestern Ontario continues to be hit by snow squalls

Midwestern Ontario is ending the week the same way it started it - with lake effect snow.

Environment Canada has a yellow-level snow squall warning in effect for the entire region. Huron County, Perth County, south Bruce County, south Grey County, and north Wellington County could see 10 to 15 centimetres of snow fall under the squalls on Friday, while Bruce Peninsula and northern Grey County are in line to receive as much as 15 to 25 centimetres of snowfall.

"Under the snow squall bands, visibility will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate," the national weather agency said in a statement.

Highway 21 between Kincardine and Amberley and Bruce Road 7 from Ripley to Highway 9 remained closed Friday morning. OPP said on social media that heavy snow removal machinery had been brought in so crews could better clear the snow and get the roads reopened. A list of ongoing road closures and event cancellations can be found at CKNXNewsToday.ca/closures.

Environment Canada expects the snow squalls will weaken Friday night. For Saturday, the forecast calls for flurries to bring 2 centimetres of snowfall with a high of minus 4 C. Sunday will be partly sunny with a slight chance of flurries and a high of minus 6 C.
