Local conservation authorities issue flood outlooks and water safety statements

Local conservation authorities are warning residents about an increased risk of flooding.

The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority has upgraded its water safety statement from March 4 to a Flood Outlook, due to unseasonably warm temperatures and the risk of rain this week. The Flood Outlook will be in effect until at least March 15

Warm temperatures and precipitation are expected to weaken river ice and raise water levels. While widespread flooding is not anticipated, fast moving water can be expected and everyone is reminded to be extremely cautious and avoid embankments, bridges, dams and rivers.

Additionally, the Grand River Conservation Authority has a water safety statement for the entire watershed due to rising water levels and warm temperatures. The statement will remain in effect until at least March 14.

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority and Maitland Valley Conseration have now also issued a Flood Outlook statement, which will be in effect until at least March 14, as well.
