Bruce County hopes to launch a smart commute ride sharing program.
On October 17, Council authorized the Warden and Clerk to sign and enter into a memorandum of understanding between Bruce County and the Smart Communities Association for a RideShare Program.
A report from Claire Dodds, Commissioner of Community Development, said a number of municipalities are already delivering the program, meaning the county can work with those municipalities that have experience with the ride share service. Dodds explained Smart Commute Association members share tools and resources that will assist Bruce County to launch, promote, and encourage participation in the Smart Commute program locally.
The County will first focus on engaging large-scale employers within the County, with the hope of creating a pool of drivers in the system. The plan meets a key transportation need identified in Bruce County's Transit Demand and Feasibility Study completed in December 2023 by connecting people to jobs.
Costs associated with the delivery of the Smart Commute Bruce County program are included in the approved Transportation and Environmental Services 2024 budget, as well as the proposed 2025 draft budget
