North Perth Council recently adopted the Attainable Housing Community Improvement Plan Implementation Policy at the August 26 meeting.
Manager of Strategic Initiatives, Jessica McLean, says the implementation policy was the final step for the plan to get going, and they've now opened up the application intake period for the numerous programs the plan offers. Now, interested developers can go on the North Perth website and learn about the plan and application criteria.
"As well, they can see the eligibility criteria to apply. The application intake period will run until December 2, or until all of the budgeted funds for this year have been allocated. Applications will be evaluated and brought back to council on a first-come, first-serve basis," explained McLean.
In terms of the criteria for applications, there are a few key things for any prospective developers to keep in mind.
"The property has to be located within the community improvement project area that has been designated by bylaw. It applies to housing that will be designated for residential use and marketed to be either rental, affordable or attainable housing," McLean shared. "In terms of some of the programs under the plan that will be offered this fall, it includes a planning and building permit fee grant, an additional residential dwelling unit grant and a tax increment equivalency grant. So more information on those programs is available on the North Perth website."
