Kincardine's Queen Street Bridge will soon be undergoing some major construction.
The rehabilitation project is expected to cost about $2.6 million and extend the bridge's life 25-30 years. If the bridge is not maintained within the next few years, it would have to go through a complete reconstruction in less than 10 years.
Director of Public Works Adam Weiser said construction will take place over the summer months, and likely wrap up in September, although a firm timeline has not been set.
Weiser said the construction will shut the bridge down to traffic.
"There will be a detour around, so we have proposed to fully close the structure to expedite the work. The work would not only take longer, but also cost additional dollars if we were to maintain a lane of traffic."
Pedestrian traffic will still be allowed through.
