Trying to connect more donors with recipients

Huron County's chief of emergency services says they've entered into an agreement with the Trillium Gift of Life Network to help connect more donors with possible recipients.

Jeff Horseman said it's an important step.

“The Trillium Gift of Life Network has recognized over the years that persons that die outside of the hospital are not able to use their organs, if that was their wish. And one of the largest increases in organ donation is actually tissue donation,” said Horsemen.

The agreement would allow paramedics to identify potential donors who pass away outside of the hospital and talk to the Trillium Gift of Life who could then contact the next of kin.

The deceased would have had to have made it known to their families that wished to be a donor and for the paramedic, it's just a phone call to the Trillium Gift of Life, once they've identified the person.
