RBC Water Grants Support Midwestern Ontario Initiatives

Canada's largest bank continues to support initiatives that help protect water in villages, towns, cities and urbanized areas in this country, and globally.

RBC announced today it is donating more than $3.2-million for water protection programs delivered by 159 organizations across nine countries, including Canada.

$50,000 is going to the Georgian Bay Forever project to stop the spread of the invasive Phragmites along the shoreline and beaches in the town of Collingwood and on the shores of Georgian Bay.

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority will receive $50,000 for it's Rain to River Project to improve the quality of local surface water and protect groundwater.

Other local grants are going to the Ausable Bayfield, Saugeen Valley and Maitland Valley Conservation Authorities, the Manitoulin Streams Improvement Association, the Bruce Trail Conservancy, the Elora Environment Centre, and the Rotary Club of Listowel Charitable Foundation.

$50,000 is earmarked for Ducks Unlimited Canada for a research project to investigate the value of wetlands in flood prevention in southern Ontario.

Today's announcement is part of RBC's annual Blue Water Day, a time for RBC employees around the globe to come together to protect their local water sources through "makeovers," which include clean up, planting and awareness-raising initiatives.

In 2014, over 20,000 employees completed 751 makeovers worldwide and the company is on track to top that participation this week.
