City-owned golf courses open for season Saturday

London's two city-owned golf courses officially launch their 2021 season this weekend.

Golfers can begin teeing off at Thames Valley Golf Course and Fanshawe Golf Course as of 9 a.m. on Saturday.

“London’s golf courses offer our residents the opportunity to get out and be active while practicing physical distancing,” Mayor Ed Holder said in a statement. “It's another big sign of spring with golf on the horizon. I encourage those who may not have considered golf before to play a round at one of the city’s courses.”

Physical distancing measures and other additional COVID-19 protocols are in place at both courses.

Instructions on how to book a tee time and information regarding course passes can be found at london.ca/golf.

The start of the golfing season comes just over a month after council voted to close River Road Golf Course. The 18-hole city-owned course near Veterans Memorial Parkway had reportedly been losing money for several years. The course had been in operation since 1992.
