The Houston Astros seven-year streak of reaching the American League Championship Series (ALCS) is over.
The Detroit Tigers stunned the Astros 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping the best of three wild-card series.
The win marks the first time Detroit has made it into the American League Division Series in a decade.
It was an up-and-down game for the Tigers, who were up 1-0 in the sixth inning only to fall behind 2-1 in the seventh.
A four-run eighth inning was the nail in the coffin for the Astros.
Kerry Carpenter sparked the eighth-inning rally with a one-out single off Ryan Pressly. He then advanced to third on a single by Matt Vierling and scored on a wild pitch, tying it at 2.
A tie-breaking three-run double, by pinch hitter Andy Ibáñez off of Houston closer Josh Hader ended the scoring, sending Detroit to the next round.
The Tigers will face the Cleveland Guardians in the ALDS.
Game One is scheduled for Saturday, October 5. The first pitch is set for 1:08 p.m.
