Canada Takes Silver in Saturday Diving Competition

Canada comes away with a silver in Day 2 of the FINA/NVC Diving World Series.

During the second day of competition at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre, Meaghan Benfeito took second place for Canada in platform diving.  The Montreal native and her diving partner, Vincent Riendeau, scored a total 314.82 points to pick up the silver medal in the 10 metre mixed synchronized platform event.

Benfeito and Riendeau won the silver medal in this event during the 2015 World Championships at Kazan, Russia, and the bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

China's Lian Jie and Lian Junjie scored 344.37 in Saturday's final round to win the gold, while Australia's Melissa Wu and Domonic Bedggood scored a close third place with 314.04.

Benfeito also placed fifth Saturday as a solo diver in the women's 10 metre platform event.  She also won bronze for this event in Rio, but was the gold medal winner at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Si Yajie placed first in the women's 10-metre platform event with 390.60 points, and Wu took second with 384 points.

In the other final event on Saturday, Britain's Jack Laugher won the gold medal in the men's three-metre springboard event.  He won the silver in this event in Rio.  Xie Siyi of China was in second place while teammate Cao Yuan placed third.

The third and final day of competition is set for Sunday, with the women's three-metre springboard, men's 10 metre platform and the mixed men's three-metre synchronized springboard event.
