Local cyclist to ride 1,200 km for Chatham-Kent Hospice

A local cyclist is getting ready to hit the road again to raise money for the Chatham-Kent Hospice.

Jeff Thiber will head out this Thursday, August 20 to bike 1,200 km in 90 hours with Kilometers for Care.

"Two years ago I did 1,000 kilometres, but I want to bump it up this year, and push a little harder and raise a little more money for Hospice," said Thibert. "It's 1,200 km; it's going to be to Paris, Ontario and back, from Tilbury, twice."

Thibert's best friend Brad McAuliffe challenged him two years ago to ride 1,000 km, and will be supporting him again by collecting donations for the Chatham-Kent Hospice.

"We would like to raise $12,000. If we can raise more, that would be great," said McAuliffe.

Donations can be dropped off to McAuliffe at Van Hoof Siding in Chatham, or made online through the Chatham-Kent Hospice website.

All the money raised will go to help cover transportation costs at the Hospice.

"There's a huge cost just to transport people to Hospice," said Thibert. "That can range anywhere up to $300 for a trip, so if we can get some good-sized donations to cover that, it really helps some people out in a really trying time."

Jeff said he's been training, but not as much as he would like. The plan is to bike to Paris and back to Tilbury, then rest for a few hours before heading back out for the second loop.
