A retired journalist is looking to enter the world of politics through Chatham-Kent's municipal election.
Karen Robinet, who most recently wrote a column for Chatham Daily News, is running in Ward 7. If elected, she would be one of two representatives for people living in the northeast part of Chatham.
She told CK News Today she wanted to run because she believes the next four years will be critical for the municipality.
"I'd like to be a part of the team that helps us move forward. I've worked as a journalist for so long covering municipal issues, [so] I have a good sense of how things work," explained Robinet.
One issue she'd like to work on, if elected, would be affordable housing. Robinet explained that fixing this would help with other pressing issues.
"Homelessness and drug addictions and all those things are all sort of revolving around people not being able to afford a home," she said.
Other priorities she would like to work on include improving the municipality's infrastructure and spending.
When asked why people should vote for her, Robinet was quick to highlight her experience as a journalist, particularly her commitment to research.
"I'll make opinions and decisions based on facts and my sense of what the community wants," she added.
CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
