People living in South Chatham will have one less person to choose from during the upcoming municipal election.
Deb Martin, who announced her candidacy for Ward 8 back on June 16, is withdrawing her name due to medical reasons.
"This is not the announcement I had hoped to make. However, at this time, I need to make my health and treatment my priority," read a post Martin made on Facebook.
Despite no longer running, Martin plans to still be an active voice in the community. She explained in her social media post that she plans to reach out to all the other Ward 8 candidates to learn more about them and offer help if needed.
Ward 8 now has 11 candidates, with people thinking of submitting their names having until August 21, 2026, to do so.
Chatham-Kent's election will be on October 26, 2026.
