A part-owner and writer for the Chatham Voice is running in Chatham-Kent's upcoming municipal election.
Jim Blake is looking to be one of two Ward 5 councillors, representing people in Wallaceburg and the surrounding area.
He told CK News Today that he believes the current council has struggled to work together, so he decided to put his name forward to help ensure the next council doesn't follow suit.
"I would like to see us use the abilities and talents of everybody involved to move things forward," said Blake.
If elected, Blake would like to take a different approach to combatting the ongoing homeless and drug crisis. This includes looking at what other communities are doing to ensure the people struggling and nearby homeowners are both supported.
"We use whatever resources we can, as well as asking the province and federal government for whatever help they can provide, as it's not strictly a municipal problem," added Blake.
When asked why people should vote for him, Blake explained that he's always been committed to supporting the community, and this would just be another way to do so.
"I was co-chair of the first United Way campaign to raise $2 million, I was on the board of the Children's Treatment Centre Foundation, and I've volunteered on just about every committee that would take a volunteer," he said.
CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
