A second purple bench has been installed in Chatham to honour all victims killed as a result of domestic violence.
It was unveiled outside Grand West Homeopathy on Tuesday by the Zonta Club of Chatham-Kent. The first bench was installed at Zonta Park back in March.
Purple benches have been installed in cities across the globe, with the first being created in 2015 in Nova Scotia to mark the 25-year anniversary of the murder of Barb Ballie.
The location for the new bench was offered by Zonta member Brigitte Davis, the owner and operator of Grand West Homeopathy. It was chosen due to its close proximity to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and a busy crosswalk.
"We wanted this bench to be more than just a place to sit. We wanted it to be a place that encourages reflection, sparks important conversations, and lets survivors know they are seen, supported, and never alone. Its location across from the hospital and at one of the city's busiest crosswalks ensures this message reaches our community every day," said Davis.
The bench was manufactured and installed by Fabmaster Welding, a locally owned metal fabrication company out of Ridgetown.
