CK police recruiting candidates

The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) is recruiting Cadets and Special Constables.

The CKPS is looking for candidates with life experience who are looking for a challenging and rewarding career.

"We do recruiting campaigns several times a year. We're really reaching out to residents of the Chatham-Kent municipality to look into policing as a possible career," said CKPS Training Sergeant Jason Williams. "It doesn't matter if you took Police Foundations, it doesn't matter what you went to school for. A lot of times, people with diverse life experience are qualified candidates."

Williams said they are looking for Cadets and Special Constables.

"Cadets are people that want to eventually become constables. So you'd be a cadet with us for up to two years, and if successful, you would go into OPC (Ontario Police College) for the Cadet program," said Williams. "The other thing we're looking for is special constables. They work at courts, they work at front desks, they are working on our Community Mobilization Unit."

The current recruitment period ends on August 1, and those selected will be invited for physical testing in mid-August.

"If you are successful in being invited to our shuttle run, the minimum you have to get is a level 7," said Williams. "Basically, the beep test for those that aren't familiar with the term shuttle run. We always challenge people. We say you know what level 7 is our minimum, but we'd like to see a standard and achieve even more."
