Accused in Chatham murder trying to move trial out of town

The man co-accused of murdering a Toronto area woman in Chatham two years ago is seeking a change of venue for his pending trial.

Jeffrey Davis, 46, was before the court in Chatham by video on Monday where it was disclosed that his change of venue application will be heard on August 10.

Justice Brian Dube previously told the court that Davis' murder trial may not be held in Chatham due to security issues.

Davis' trial was to have taken place sometime this year, but Davis requested to change his lawyer and was waiting for it to be approved. His judicial pre-trial continues.

Davis' co-accused, Shaquille Belle, was not in court on Monday. A defence associate told the court they are still working on trial dates for Belle. His matter will return to Chatham court on July 6. Belle was charged in September 2025, months after Davis.

Both men remain in custody. They are charged with the murder of 27-year-old Louise Thomson of Milton, who was found dead at a home on William Street South in Chatham in June 2024.

The two cases are under publication bans that prevent more information from being made public.
