Chatham paralegal eyeing spot on CK's next council

A paralegal is running in Chatham-Kent's upcoming election.

Stephani Shill is hoping to be one of two Ward 8 councillors, representing people living in the southern part of Chatham.

She told CK News Today she decided to run after growing frustrated with how little she believes the community's input is considered.

"I attended a deputation a while ago, and when I walked away from that, I felt like the decision was already made before I even spoke, and that just didn't sit right with me," said Shill.

If elected, Shill plans on advocating for investing in today's youth. She believes the next council needs to do a better job of ensuring the municipality's future is something people can be proud of.

Shill also wants to explore different approaches to address the ongoing homeless crisis.

"I think encampments shouldn't be a thing, and I believe there's a better way to help these people who, unfortunately, are not healthy enough to help themselves," she added.

As to why she believes people should vote for her, Shill quickly noted that anyone who chooses her won't have to worry whether she's running just to take part in political theatre.

"A lot of people are tired of that. With me, what you see is what you're gonna get. I'll admit if I don't know something, I'll do the work, ask the questions, and get the answers," she said.

CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
