New face in Chatham running in CK election

A new face in Chatham-Kent (CK) is hoping to bring their skills to the next municipal council.

Ryan Drouillard announced his candidacy for Ward 8 on Thursday. He is one of eight people hoping to secure a seat on CK council in that ward.

Drouillard, a manager at the Heart Store, is hoping to bring his analytical and financial skills to the horse shoe.

"I'm used to having to pinch my pennies. So what I'd be able to bring to the table would be just more of my experiences on how I handle that, along with my abilities that I've been able to use at the store," Drouillard explained.

He added that his hope is to move things around financially so that every business becomes profitable,

Drouillard is a recent addition to the Chatham community, moving here in 2022. He attributes his candidacy to customers he has spoken with while at work.

"It's the customers that gave me the inspiration to run, along with just certain things you see and where you think you'd be a best fit," said Drouillard.

He told CK News Today that he sees several issues within the municipality that he's hoping to work on.

"It's sort of a never-ending problem, but those problems do become opportunities," said Drouillard, pointing out high property taxes, homelessness, road conditions, and affordable housing. "It's a matter of working together as a cohesive unit."

When discussing why CK residents should vote for him, he noted his 25 years of financial experience, as well as his recent move to the community.

"I'm also sort of new to the area, but it's a fresh face for the people of CK. It's sort of the new kid on the block, a new opportunity for people not to have that same old face and have the same old issues that seem to constantly be happening," Drouillard continued.

CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
