Insurance broker looking for spot on CK's next council

A commercial insurance broker is running to be one of six Chatham representatives on Chatham-Kent's (CK) next municipal council.

Scott Thompson is running in Ward 8, which covers the southern part of the city.

He told CK News Today he decided to run because of his growing frustration with the direction he sees the municipality heading.

"Services continue to decline, our infrastructure is in a terrifying state, and we have a mayor and a group of councillors who are meeting in secret," he said.

The biggest issue for Thompson is the yearly tax increases. He specifically believes that past councils have focused too much on nice-to-have projects and not need-to-have projects.

"Some councillors have tried to slow that down, but they just don't have the numbers to get anything accomplished. I'm hoping to add to that number to help mitigate those increases," added Thompson.

This stance on spending is why Thompson believes people should vote for him.

"There should be a lot of no's happening as far as increasing expenditures, so they can count on me to be a no vote on spending their money," he explained.

Voters will head to the polls on October 26, 2026.
