The 10th annual Hike for Hospice Chatham-Kent raised $200,000 this year.
Hospice officials said more than 400 took part in the event along Mud Creek Trail.
This year's hike included planting memorial trees along the path to create a lasting tribute to all those loved and lost.
According to officials, Hike for Hospice Chatham-Kent has raised more than $1.31 million over the past 10 years to support compassionate, end-of-life care in the community. The care includes residential hospice services, care coordination, and grief and bereavement programs, which are offered at no cost to local families.
“This year’s Hike for Hospice was especially meaningful as we celebrated 10 years of caring for our community,” said Brock McGregor, Executive Director of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation. “The incredible support we continue to receive ensures that individuals and families facing end-of-life journeys have access to compassionate care, comfort, and dignity when they need it most. We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated, donated, and helped make this event such a success.”
Chatham-Kent Hospice relies on community donations, saying it requires $235,000 each month to cover the operating costs of the 10-bed residential facility.
Since opening in April 2016, officials noted Chatham-Kent Hospice has provided end-of-life hospice care to over 1,761 families and supported over 2,500 individuals with grief and bereavement support.
