Storey eyeing second term on CK council

Current Chatham-Kent (CK) Councillor Alysson Storey is looking to keep her spot on the municipality's council.

She filed her paperwork on Friday, the first day she could, running in one of three Chatham-specific ridings. If re-elected, she would be one of two Ward 6 councillors, representing residents in the northwest part of the community.

Storey was first elected in 2022, receiving the fifth-most votes in Chatham's only Ward at the time. The top six vote-getters were elected, with Storey receiving nearly 900 more votes than the sixth place finisher.

She told CK News Today that she's running again to finish some of the work she started in her first term.

"I believe I made a lot of solid inroads on things like transparency, accountability, accessibility, but that work isn't done yet," explained Storey.

To her, these three issues remain top of mind.

Storey said there were times during her first term when she considered leaving once the term wrapped up. She joined at the tail end of the COVID-19 pandemic and was in the middle of several heated debates, including the one surrounding the Community Hub project.

"I would call it, for a first-term councillor, a roller coaster. Good, bad, and everything in between," she added.

Despite all of it, Storey is hoping to keep her position. She explained that when the residents go to vote, they'll know exactly what they'll get if they choose her.

"I believe that during this term, I've stood up for transparency, I've stood up for accountability, and I've stood up for the citizens of Chatham-Kent," she said.

CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
