Computer specialist vying to be a Wallaceburg councillor

The man behind a petition to have Wallaceburg leave Chatham-Kent (CK) is now looking to join the municipality's next council.

Brendan Authier is running to be one of two representatives for Wallaceburg and nearby communities.

A computer specialist running his own business, Authier has since been diving into politics, speaking as a delegate at multiple council meetings and seeking local support to have the community of Wallaceburg govern itself.

He told CK News Today that his frustration stems from the current council routinely focusing on just Chatham.

"We need people who are willing to put local first, who are willing to represent the smaller urban communities and rural areas," explained Authier.

He also argued that the municipality's spending has gotten out of control. He blames large-scale projects like the Community Hub and a recently approved Waste-to-Energy project.

Authier believes the first thing the next council needs to do is find a way to lessen the burden on taxpayers.

"I would like to prioritize a tax freeze and have an educated plan, with public feedback, on actually lowering taxes," he added.

If elected, Authier also plans on being as transparent as possible with all constituents.

"I want to hold meetings every month. I want people invested in what is going on in their local community," he explained.

Wallaceburg will have two new representatives, as Aaron Hall and Carmen McGregor don't plan on running again.

CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
