Former KFA president running for Ward 2 in CK election

The former president of the Kent Federation of Agriculture (KFA) is looking to join Chatham-Kent's (CK) next municipal council.

Brad Snobelen is officially running to be one of two Ward 2 Councillors. The area currently has three representatives, but will officially lose one after the current council approved shrinking its size and boundary lines.

Ward 2 now includes Ridgetown, close to where Snobelen currently lives.

"I feel like we need a good, strong voice for Ward 2, and I think that I can do that," he explained.

Snobelen went on to say that current Ward 3 Councillor John Wright has done a good job sharing the concerns of people in the Ridgetown and Highgate areas, but since he's stepping aside, someone needs to fill his shoes.

One reason he believes he's a good fit for the job is that he's a farmer.

"Agriculture, right now in Chatham-Kent, is the largest economic driver, and I've always felt that it should be represented well," said Snobelen.

Along with ensuring that the local agricultural industry is properly represented, Snobelen wants the next council to devote much of its time to improving aging infrastructure.

"We still don't have a great plan for fixing our roads, keeping them in good condition, and seeing that our bridges also get repaired," he added.

Snobelen went on to say that infrastructure isn't a fun topic, but is one of the more important items that local councils need to take seriously.

So far, Snobelen is one of three planning to run for Ward 2. He joins Matthew Giffin and Matt Lamarche.

CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
