Anderson enters CK mayoral race

The mayoral race in Chatham-Kent has another candidate.

Ward 1 Councillor Lauren Anderson officially announced on Friday afternoon that she has entered the race.

Anderson, a registered nurse, first-term councillor, and mother of two, said her campaign is grounded in real-life experience, strong community connection, and a renewed commitment to care in local leadership.

“Chatham-Kent is home. It’s where I’ve raised my daughters, built my career, and served my community,” said Anderson. “I’m running for Mayor because I believe we need leadership that reflects the realities people are facing.”

Anderson noted she'll lead with care, accountability, and action, bringing a frontline perspective shaped by her work in healthcare, where she has witnessed firsthand the challenges impacting individuals and families across the community.

“As a nurse, you see the pressures people are under every single day,” she said. “Care isn’t just about services, it’s about how we show up for people. Those experiences shape how you listen, how you lead, and how you make decisions.”

Anderson added that her experience balancing work, family, and public service has also grounded her leadership approach.

“Being a mom has taught me resilience, accountability, and how to prioritize what truly matters,” Anderson added. “I want a future for my daughters, and for all families in Chatham-Kent, where people feel supported, heard, and genuinely cared for.”

She said she's proud of her reputation for being accessible, responsive, and deeply engaged in the community.

Anderson touted her efforts to secure millions of dollars in funding to support Wheatley’s revitalization following the downtown explosion, helping guide recovery efforts, and ensuring the community’s needs remained at the centre of decision-making.

She noted that her mayoral campaign will focus on strengthening local services, supporting sustainable economic growth, and advancing a more caring, responsive approach to municipal decision-making.

“This campaign is about people, and about building a community where care is at the centre of every decision. I’m ready to keep showing up, listening, and doing the work," Anderson added.

She officially submitted her nomination papers on Friday, the first day of the nomination period.

Long-time councillor Michael Bondy is expected to run for mayor as well, but hasn't registered yet.

Mayor Darrin Canniff hasn't announced whether he'll run again or not.
