LTVCA says heavy rain could cause flooding in CK

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) is giving the community advanced warning about potential flooding due to heavy rain in the forecast.

The weather forecasts are calling for lots of rain on Wednesday and Thursday on top of what fell on Tuesday night.

The LTVCA said ponding, standing water, and localized flooding could be expected around the region, and watercourses could rise, with some possibly spilling their banks into adjacent low-lying areas.

The conservation authority noted it's too early to tell whether the rain will have a significant impact on water levels in the Thames River.

As usual, LTVCA officials are asking the public to take extra caution and avoid local waterways that are running high because the slippery banks and fast-moving cold water can be dangerous. Children, pets, and livestock should also be kept away from the water.

Conservation officials said they will continue to monitor the situation until Saturday and will update information as necessary.
