CK council moves forward with dust suppressant for 2026

Chatham-Kent (CK) council has awarded over $1 million for the supply and application of dust suppressants.

During Monday night's meeting, the $1,277,500 tender was given to Den-Mar Brines LTD..

The contract is for the 2026 season but includes the option of renewing the agreement for 2027 and 2028.

Funds for this year's application were approved in the 2026 Annual Budget Update.

Councillor Anthony Ceccacci put forward a motion to allocate the money towards two applications of dust suppressant adjacent to residential driveways and to consider increased applications at intersections.

Ceccacci introduced the motion as a pilot project, meaning the funds have been supplied from the Strategic Reserve, resulting in no tax impact.

The renewals will only take place if funds are approved in the applicable future Council-approved budgets.

The motion awarding the tender passed 15 to zero.
