Chatham-Kent residents are invited to bundle up and hit the streets this Saturday, February 28 for a great cause.
NeighbourLink CK will host its 10th annual Coldest Night of the Year walk at Grace Christian Reformed Church on Tweedsmuir Avenue in Chatham.
Registration opens at 4 p.m., and the walk begins at 5, followed by a chili supper at 6 p.m.
The goal is to raise $70,000 for NeighbourLink programs.
"The biggest thing that we do is provide free transportation for people who can't get to medical appointments and other places," said Al Baker, Managing Director of NeighbourLink CK. "Necessary places like the bank, or the grocery store, or a lot of calls for Service Ontario, Service Canada, that sort of thing."
NeighbourLink also helps with food security.
"Twenty per cent of Canadians now are on two meals a day because they can't afford to pay the rent and buy food. So they cut back, let your kids eat, and then get what they can. It's kind of a sad situation."
At last check, over 100 walkers have registered and raised over $48,000. Walkers can come out the day of the event, or register in advance online and collect pledges at https://cnoy.org/location/chatham-kent.
