FreeHelpCK collecting prom dresses and formal clothing

Local students hoping to look their best for prom and graduation are in luck.

FreeHelpCK is once again running its Prom and Grad Project. On Saturday, April 11, students are invited to come shopping at their storefront at One Hundred King in downtown Chatham.

"They just come, they complete a form that kind of just gives us a little bit of basic information," said Amy Smith of FreeHelpCK. "Their name, what they're looking for, have they looked at other options?"

This is the seventh year for the project, and it helped over 400 people last year. Volunteers will be on hand to help make everyone who attends feel special.

"You get a personal shopper, so if you've ever seen ‘Say Yes to the Dress,’ we kind of tailor it to that same experience," said Smith. "It just allows the students to feel so prioritized in that moment, as they should."

FreeHelpCK is currently collecting donations, and it accepts more than just formal gowns.

"Any suits, ties, necklaces, earrings. Anything that you think an individual could use on a prom day that you're willing to part ways with, we would love for you to donate to us," said Owen Horton with FreeHelpCK.

Donations can be dropped off in Chatham at Betty Brite Dry Cleaners on Keil Drive and Apple Storage on Industrial Street, at CSN Tilbury on Queen St. S. and at in Wallaceburg at CSN Holmes on Gillard St.

Betty Brite also accepts donations year-round, and cleans all the dresses that are brought in.

FreeHelpCK is also planning an Enchantment Day on June 13 with complimentary hair and makeup, and professional photos at Retro Suites Hotel, by phototgrapher Michael Cartier.
