Chatham-Kent residents fined after dog attacks

A pair of local residents recently appeared in court for two separate dog attacks in Chatham-Kent.

A 60-year-old man from Wallaceburg was accused of failing to stop his loose dog from attacking another dog at a community yard sale in May 2025.

Animal control officers investigated, and the man was charged with multiple offences under the Dog Owner's Liability Act.

After a three-day trial, he was convicted on January 16 and fined $5,000.

Meanwhile, a 44-year-old woman from Thamesville was accused of failing to stop her two dogs from attacking a delivery driver.

Animal control officers investigated and found it was the third incident in which the dogs had attacked a delivery driver.

She was charged under Chatham-Kent's Animal Bylaw, and after a trial, was convicted and fined $400.

Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR) animal control investigates around 400 complaints a year in Chatham-Kent, including around 100 that involve dog bites.
