The Lower Thames Valley and the St. Clair Region Conservation Authorities are teaming up to host a soil health conference in Chatham.
Phosphorus: The Balancing Act will feature a number of guest speakers at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre in Chatham on Thursday, February 12.
"For the last two years, we've been working with farmers from across our regions to help implement best management practices on farmland and to help reduce some of the runoff getting into our waterways," said Amanda Doucette, Agricultural Outreach and Communications Technician with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority. "We're inviting all our local farmers, or anybody working in the agricultural sector, or anybody interested, to come on out and spend the day with us to learn a bit more about soil health."
The full-day event at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre will feature a number of speakers.
"You’ll be able to hear a little bit about cover crops, nutrient management, probability mapping, and so much more. We have a full agenda of agronomists, researchers, and a panel of local farmers, who are all going to be discussing different aspects of soil health."
The keynote speaker is Dr. Jill Clapperton, Principal Scientist and President of Rhizoterra Inc., who is recognized internationally for her work in soil health and sustainable agriculture.
Other speakers include Dale Cowan from Agris Co-op; Lori Phillips from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada; local farmer Woody Van Arkel; Aaron Breimer, Certified Crop Advisor with Moose Ag; Stefan Zehtner with Huron Cover Crops; and Manbir Rakkar and Gregory LaBarge, Soil Fertility Specialists from Ohio State University.
The cost is $25 a person and includes lunch. The deadline to register is Wednesday, February 4. You can register online by clicking here.
