LKDSB launches salt spreader naming contest

In a spinoff of popular snowplow naming contests across Canadian communities, the Lambton-Kent District School Board (LKDSB) is looking for students to name its new salt spreader trucks.

The LKDSB purchased the new equipment in an effort to combat the worsening winter weather effecting school grounds across Chatham-Kent (CK) and Sarnia Lambton.

It's believed that the dedicated equipment will help respond more quickly and effectively to freezing conditions and ensure greater accessibility to playgrounds, sidewalks, and blacktops throughout the winter and early spring.

"This is a smart and proactive investment that supports the safety and well‑being of our students and staff," said LKDSB Associate Director Brian McKay. "These machines will significantly enhance our ability to respond to changing weather conditions and maintain safe school environments across the district."

In an effort to celebrate the arrival of the salt spreaders, the school board has launched the Name Our Salt Spreader Contest, with hopes that the students can come up with creative, memorable names that reflect their school communities.

It's open to all LKDSB classes, with one winning name chosen for CK and one chosen for Sarnia-Lambton. Not only will the class that suggests the winning names see them displayed on the salt spreaders, they'll also win a pizza party.

Each class can submit one name between February 3 and February 10.

The submissions will then be voted on between February 11 and February 17.

The winning names will be announced on Thursday, February 19.
