The 2026 snowplow naming contest is now open for submissions in Chatham-Kent.
This annual tradition celebrates "community creativity and winter spirit", the municipality said.
Naming snowplows has become a very popular and fun event over the past four years, and several winning names have even been featured nationwide during Hockey Night in Canada broadcasts.
Some of the winning names have included Anita Shovel, Gordie Plow, Blizzard of Oz, Darth Blader, Pillsbury Plowboy, Sled Zepplin, Snobi One Kenobi, Austin Plowers, Taylor Drift, Snowtorius B.I.G., and The Big LePlowski.
"This recognition highlights not only the imagination of our residents, but also the strong sense of community pride that defines Chatham‑Kent," the municipality noted, adding that the contest gives residents a unique opportunity to leave their mark. "We can’t wait to see the clever, witty, and original names our community will submit this year. Each year, your creativity and camaraderie make this initiative a standout success."
Submitted names must be family-friendly, not include any foul language, and not discriminate.

According to the municipality, a group will review the names and select 25 to advance to the voting stage.
Residents can vote for their favourite name (one), and the three names with the highest votes will be added to the fleet.
The winning names will be announced at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to be held at a later date.
The municipality told CK News Today that the fleet will be almost fully named after the three new names are announced.
