Over 600 travelling to Chatham for pool tournament

People hoping to book a hotel room in Chatham next week will be disappointed.

More than 600 people from across the province will be visiting the community to take part in the Ontario 8-Ball Championships.

The last four events were held in London, this time organizer Ronda Clement decided to host at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre.

"For us, we need a big venue. Most banquet halls aren't big enough," she explained.

Other cities, including Windsor, Mississauga, and Brantford, were considered but skipped in favour of Chatham.

Players of varying skill levels will take part in the tournament. This includes those in the elite category and junior pool players.

Some will also be driving all the way from North Bay, which can take nearly six hours.

Clement explained that moving the annual championships to Chatham is very much on the table.

"We're going to try this year and see what happens," she said.

The event gets underway on February 4. The finals will be played on February 9.
