Chatham-Kent Polar Plunge raises $50K

Over 100 people braved the cold and snowy weather this past weekend to dive into a pool of freezing cold water for a great cause.

The ninth annual Polar Plunge took place on Saturday, January 17 at Sons of Kent Brewing in Chatham.

One hundred and seven plungers raised $50,016 for Special Olympics Ontario.

That's down from 2025 when 150 people raised more than $63,000.

Chatham-Kent police Sergeant Jason Herder, who helped organize the event, is grateful for the community's support.

"I can't thank the support we have gotten year after year with this event. From our event sponsors, plungers, donors and volunteer team. Year after year I'm left speechless and amazed," said Herder. "I'm so proud of our community and the support they bring for Special Olympics, I could never thank everyone enough."

Herder added that they're already planning next year's event, which will be their 10th anniversary.

An exact date has not been set at this time, but it will take place at Sons of Kent.
