The Chatham Goodfellows' 71st annual No Child Without a Christmas campaign has come to an end, and organizers say the community’s generosity once again made a meaningful difference for families in need.
The Board of Directors says demand for assistance remained high this year, as many residents across Chatham-Kent continue to struggle with the rising cost of living. The campaign was able to provide food and toys to just under 1,700 families, helping more than 1,460 children.
The charity thanked local corporations, small and large businesses, service clubs, churches, schools, volunteers, and everyday citizens as the campaign exceeded expectations. The Porchlight Campaign raised $53,199, while street sales brought in more than $30,728. In total, Chatham Goodfellows raised over $238,372 this year, with counting still ongoing.
That funding went toward food hampers, toys, and gift certificates for boots or shoes. This year’s expenses included more than $126,000 for food and nearly $56,000 for toys, not including additional food and toy donations collected throughout the campaign.
Organizers emphasize that nothing goes to waste. Any surplus food was donated to local food banks to continue helping families beyond the holidays.
The Board also extended special thanks to Rene, one of the former owners of Peavy Mart, for providing space for toy packing and delivery.
As the campaign comes to a close, the Chatham Goodfellows Board of Directors says it remains humbled by the generosity shown throughout the municipality.
