A pony found wandering the city streets of Chatham has found a new home.
Chatham-Kent Animal Control said a call was received at 5 a.m. on Sunday about a horse on the loose within the city.
An officer, with the help of a local horse enthusiast, was quickly able to track down and capture the pony.
The pony, who has been named Peanut, was placed in stray hold while Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR) searched for her owner, but she went unclaimed.
On Thursday, Peanut was adopted into a home that can meet all of her needs.
Animal control is reminding residents that horses and ponies are only permitted on properties zoned for agricultural use. Keeping equines in non-agricultural zones is not permitted and can pose safety concerns for both the animals and the public
This is the third time animal control has had to respond to incidents involving equines.
