A new mural has officially been installed at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) in Chatham.
The piece is dedicated to the hospital's Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence (SA/DV) Treatment Centre.
This safe space, located in the CKHA's emergency department, offers specialized care for people of all ages and genders who've experienced sexual assault, domestic violence, or human trafficking.
"[This] mural is more than just art; it is a piece of healing that transforms our space. It provides a visual reminder of hope, tranquility, and resilience, which is essential for the survivors who come through our doors, offering them comfort and dignity as they begin their journey toward recovery," said Tara Greenway, Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Team Lead at CKHA.
The mural was created by local artist Miranda Andrews. She was chosen to make the piece by a committee and the Chatham-Kent Women’s Centre.
