The Chatham-Kent Hospice has received Hospice Residence Accreditation from the province for 2025-2028.
The recognition comes from Hospice Palliative Care Ontario (HPCO) and shows that an organization meets established industry standards. It also recognizes an organization an one committed to ongoing learning, quality improvement, and excellence in hospice palliative care.
"Going through the accreditation process gave us the opportunity to evaluate our practices, strengthen what was working well, and identify areas for enhancement," said CK Hospice Executive Director Jessica Smith. "This peer-reviewed recognition reflects the dedication of our entire team to delivering the highest quality of care and raising the bar for hospice and palliative services."
The process for accreditation is done in phases and takes several months. The first phase includes a self-assessment, ensuring that the organization is meeting HPCO standards. The second phase includes several months of evidence gathering and submissions to HPCO as well as a peer review and an on-site visit.
"This re-accreditation is a testament to the quality of care our team has been providing to those at end of life in Chatham-Kent," said Keith Graham, Chair of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Board of Directors.
He added that he's grateful to all the staff, volunteers, and families who shared their experiences during the accreditation process.
The Chatham-Kent Hospice is a 10-bed residential facility that offers care and support for residents facing end of life and their loved ones.
