UPDATE: One person taken to hospital in Hwy. 40 crash

A section of Highway 40 in St. Clair Township was closed for over 12 hours following a two-vehicle collision Thursday morning.

Lambton OPP, EMS and members of the St. Clair Township Fire Department responded to a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer at the intersection of Highway 40 and Bentpath Line in Sombra at around 8:40 a.m.

Police said the driver of the passenger vehicle, a 31-year-old from Plympton-Wyoming, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The transport driver was not hurt.

Highway 40 was closed in both directions between Wilkesport Line, Smith Line, Baseline Road and Indian Creek Road until about 11:30 p.m. 

The investigation is ongoing.
