Two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 401 near Dutton claims life

A woman has died following a two-vehicle crash that shut down part of Highway 401 between Chatham and London.

Emergency crews were called to the eastbound lanes of the highway at Iona Road in Dutton around 2:35 a.m. on Sunday, December 7.

Elgin County OPP say a 64-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.

Four other people were also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The eastbound lanes of the 401 were closed for about 10 hours, but reopened around 12:30 p.m.

Elgin County OPP, with assistance from the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME), continues to investigate the crash.
