Police arrest man for allegedly vandalizing Tesla vehicle in Chatham

A 27-year-old Chatham man is charged after allegedly vandalizing a Tesla truck.

At around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Chatham-Kent police were called about a vehicle being damaged in a retail store's parking lot on St. Clair Street.

When officers arrived, they found that a Tesla Cybertruck had been scratched with a key. The driver also told police the man responsible also shouted racial slurs.

The suspect was gone by this time, however, he was spotted at a nearby intersection.

While being arrested, the man allegedly spat at one of the officers.

He's since been charged with mischief over $5,000 and assaulting a peace officer. The man was released from custody with a April 28, 2025, court date.

This is the latest case of Tesla vehicles being damaged in Canada. According to CBC News, 80 vehicles were damaged in Hamilton and another two were set on fire in Calgary.
