Local hockey players will get to work on their skating skills with some of Chatham-Kent's top players next month.
The Craig Spence Foundation will host free power skating sessions for around 200 kids between the ages of 6 and 13 at Memorial Arena in Chatham on December 23 and 27.
"So we're going to have all the top local, pro athletes that have had good careers, and they're going to come on the ice," said Grant Spence.
Grant started the foundation after his brother Craig died in a tragic car accident on the 401 earlier this year.
"We started this Foundation with two main goals in mind. One, keeping his name relevant in this town, and two, giving kids in town the same opportunity that I had, and my brothers had, growing up," said Spence. "We always had the opportunity to play whatever sports we wanted, and do whatever we wanted, and our parents have given us that opportunity, and had the money to give us those opportunities. Which isn't really doable with most kids nowadays. So being to be able to give this free skate to kids is just the start of what the foundation is really going to be all about."
Registration opens on Sunday, December 1 at noon through the Foundation's Instagram page at @craigspencefoundation.
All skill levels are welcome, and the kids will be divided up into four different age groups. All participants will also receive a free jersey.
