The Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of the 78th annual Rural Urban Awards.
They’re handed out each year to people and businesses in the agricultural/ food producing sector.
Taking home the Future Leader of the Year Award is Ridgetown’s Meredith Anderson.
The 17-year-old is the youngest of four siblings who all work on their family’s farm.
She told CK News Today it was a special feeling being told she had won.
“I was actually excited, it’s a big honour,” added Anderson.
She explained working in agriculture has become a passion. It was hard to pick one reason why she likes it but eventually she credited the people.
“They’re really nice, welcoming, we have all something in common… we love the animals and the work,” said Anderson.
Other Rural Urban Award winners include Louis Roesch, Emma Butler, and Robb Nelson.
Each will receive their award on November 27, 2024, at the Chatham-Kent John D. Bradley Convention Centre.
People interested in attending the event can buy tickets online.
