CKHA doctor facing multiple sex charges involving a minor

A doctor who grew up in Thamesville and is an Emergency Physician at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is facing some very serious sex-related charges.

Chatham-Kent police charged Dr. Robert Wismer on October 14 with three counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual interference, and three counts of invitation to sexual touching to persons under 16 years old, according to a notice posted to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

The charges stem from incidents between August 29, 2024 and October 12, 2024.

As a result, Wismer is under some release conditions imposed on him.

He must not contact or communicate in any way, either directly or indirectly, by any physical, electronic or other means, with named persons, he must not be within 10 metres of any place where he knows named persons to live, work, or go to school, and he must not attend a public park or public swimming area where persons under 16 years of age are present or can reasonably be expected to be present.

Wismer also can't attend a daycare centre, school ground, playground or community centre except with another adult who is aware of the charges, he can't be alone with any child under the age of 16, other than his biological children, except with another adult who is aware of the charges, and he must not possess any weapons.

Dr. Wismer has been practicing Family Medicine since 2019.

He went to Western University and Flinders University of South Australia where he received a Doctor of Medicine in 2015.

CKHA said it recently became aware of charges against Dr. Wismer, adding he is not currently providing services at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

CKHA said it understands that the allegations are unrelated to Wismer's medical practice or duties at the hospital and no finding has been made by any court.

CKHA said it is reviewing the matter.
