Wallaceburg railroad tie fire extinguished

Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services supressed a railroad fire that broke out in Wallaceburg Tuesday afternoon.

Stations 2 and 3 responded to a call near Running Creek Road around 1 p.m. According to CKFES, there were five-foot flames and black smoke coming from the railroad ties when they arrived.

Wallaceburg Volunteer Firefighters and Tanker 5 from Tupperville were also called in to assist.

Nearby residents were urged to shut their windows and doors as crews fought the blaze, due to potentially toxic smoke.

CKFES said the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. The Ministry of Environment was notified.
