CK police provide update on man linked to string of break-ins

Chatham-Kent police are sharing some more of the details from their investigation into a series of break-ins on Indian Creek Road in Chatham.

CK police said they were called to four break-and-enter investigations at commercial properties on that street on Saturday, noting that someone had caused about $10,000 by breaking into the properties while only managing to steal "a small amount of cash."

Officers said they were able to identify a suspect after reviewing some CCTV and surveillance footage from businesses in the area.

At that time, investigators also connected the man to a previous commercial break-and-enter that was reported on September 30, 2024 on King Street West in Chatham.

Officers also learned that the man was wanted on a warrant from July 23, 2024 in connection with a fraud investigation where a wallet had been taken from a vehicle and the stolen credit cards were used at several retail locations in Chatham.

Police were able to track the man down and arrested him on King Street East. He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

The man is charged with six counts of possession of stolen property, five counts of unauthorized use of a credit card, four counts of fraud, three counts of break-and-enter while wearing a disguise with intent to commit a crime, one count of theft, and one count of mischief.

He was moved to the Southwest Regional Detention Centre after a bail hearing and is set to appear in court again on Tuesday.
