Chatham woman accused of robbery

A 30-year-old woman is facing a pair of charges after she allegedly shoved a couple of employees while she was stealing from a business in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the business on Keil Drive South at around 6 p.m. Thursday and that no one reported any injuries as a result of the incident.

Officers said the woman took off with several items from the store and that they were able to track down a suspect nearby based on a description that was given to them by staff members at the business.

Police said they recognized the woman from previous encounters with officers.

The 30-year-old Chatham woman was arrested, charged with robbery and possession of stolen property, and taken to police headquarters before she was released with conditions and a future court date.

Police looking for tips after break-in

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips after someone smashed a glass door at a local business and rummaged through the cash register.

CK police said they received that call at around 9 a.m. Thursday, adding that their investigation showed the break-in took place at around 2:30 a.m. based on video surveillance.

Police said whoever broke in, went through the cash register, but the business owner said no money was taken.

Officers were able to confirm that no other damage was done and nothing else was taken from the scene. The damage to the door was estimated at around $1,000.

The investigation is still underway and anyone with information should contact Chatham-Kent police or Crime Stoppers.

Wanted woman arrested during well-being check

A well-being check on a Wallaceburg woman led to her being arrested after Chatham-Kent police learned she was wanted for skipping court.

CK police said they were called to the area of James Street in Wallaceburg at around 9 a.m. Thursday for a report of a woman who was lying on the ground.

Officers went to check on her and when they learned who she was, they also found out that she was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in connection with an assault investigation.

As a result, police arrested the 27-year-old Wallaceburg woman and took her back to police headquarters where she was set to be held pending a bail hearing.
